Studio Ghibli releases 300 more free images from six movies including ‘Princess Mononoke’


To help his fans out until the release of “Aya and the Witch”, Studio Ghibli was very generous, offering free background picture for our WFH Zoom meetings and hundreds of free movie photos which can be assembled to create commemorative photo books.

Last month, the studio already shared 400 images from its archive: 50 images each from eight critically acclaimed films, including “Spirited Away,” “Ponyo” and Oscar-winning “Tales from Earthsea.” Now Studio Ghibli just released another group stills, this time from six other iconic tracks: “Howl’s Moving Castle”, “Princess Mononoke”, “The Cat Returns”, “Whisper of the Heart”, “Ghiblies Episode 2” and “My Neighbors the Yamadas”.

Here are the movies featured in this latest batch of free pictures.

Released in 2004, ‘Howl’s Howl’s Moving Castle‘ revolves around a young girl named Sophie, who is cursed by a witch and turned into an old lady. She seeks the help of a wizard named Howl on her journey of self-discovery and love.

The cat returns

The 2002 movie ‘The cat returns‘ is a spin-off of the 1995 Ghibli film ‘Whisper of the Heart’. It follows the story of a high school girl who ends up saving the prince of the cat kingdom and who, by coincidence, turns into a cat herself.

The Ghiblies Episode 2‘ (2002) is the sequel to the 2000 film ‘Ghiblies’, which features animated characters based on Studio Ghibli employees. Animation is known for its stunning watercolor renderings.

My Neighbors the Yamadas

The 2002 animated comedy’My Neighbors the Yamadas‘ is another classic Ghibli hit. It tells the touching story of the Yamada family. Unlike other Ghibli movies, this one is unique in that it’s created to look like a stylized comic book.

Princess Mononoke

Any hardcore Ghibli fan has probably watched ‘Princess Mononoke‘ (1997) several times. The cult film, directed by Hayao Miyazaki, is aesthetically pleasing because it’s relevant to our times, and the magical creatures you see in the film only add to the awe and wonder.

Whisper of the heart

The coming of age animeWhisper of the heart‘ (1995) is based on a manga of the same name. It follows a high school girl Shizuku who, while searching for a certain boy, encounters a series of exciting characters and adventures.
