Marvel star Simu Liu Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, hilariously retrieves his infamous stock photos. Although he is first known to many for his role in Kim’s ConvenienceLiu would later rise to fame with his role in last year’s film Shang Chi. The film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, was a hit with audiences and critics. Shortly after its release, Marvel confirmed that Shang Chi 2 had officially been given the green light, with Liu set to return as the MCU’s newest hero.
Although now a household name among Marvel fans, Liu has been open about his career before becoming a big actor, often mentioning his first job as a stock photo model and Spider Man copycat. The actor previously revealed that while in credit card debt, he took a job as a photo model for $120. The footage shows Liu in a variety of situations, including exercising and working in a professional environment with a team of professionals. Besides playing the role of Shang-Chi, Liu also recently published a book, We were dreamersrecounting his difficult journey to becoming a Marvel star.
In a new Twitter post celebrating her book on the New York Times Bestseller list, Liu hilariously edits his old Zumba stock photos in an effort to “retrievethem. The new versions of the images show Liu working out while holding We were dreamers. The edits are clearly not meant to be seamless, with Liu’s hand poking through the book or looking like his fingers have been cut off. The Marvel actor also uses the post to thank Ryan Reynolds and Olivia Munn, who contributed blurbs to the back cover. Check out Liu’s tweet below:
While now portraying one of the central characters of the MCU’s Phase 4, it’s clear that Liu, instead of trying to hide his past modeling work, is happy to embrace it and draw attention to it. . Many actors might find the job embarrassing, but Liu’s attempts to salvage the footage by using it to promote his book is a smart way to embrace his past while looking to the future. In the comments to the post, users are clearly amused by the edits, with some even making a habit of editing their own version of Liu’s old photos to feature the cover of We were dreamers.
It remains to be seen what’s next for Liu in the MCU and whether Shang-Chi will appear in any avengers-style teams in addition to the expected sequel. So far, Liu’s attempt to salvage his archive photos seems to have worked, making him an even more beloved figure in the process. Both on-screen and off, Liu has proven to be an exciting new edition to the MCU, with many audiences already clamoring for the character to appear in another film or show beyond that.
