Scientists share the worst photos of their work and they’re hilarious

Scientists are sharing bad photos of their work, and they’re pretty amazing to see.

Most of the time, it seems like the general public isn’t really sure what scientists do on a day-to-day basis.

It seems stock photographers are no different, judging by these beauties.

Biophysics professor Nicole Paulk kicked things off by tweeting this photo of a scientist examining a piece of dry ice as if it were something unknown to mankind.

Coming soon hashtag #badstockphotosofmyjob was born, with countless other scientists sharing stock images they found of sexy scientists, astronomers wearing lab coats and safety glasses, and a whole host of scientists staring in amazement at a chicken.

They. Are. Surprising.

It seems some stock photographers think science is something you do in your negligee. Note that she wears safety goggles and gloves to protect her from the science, but everything else is at risk from potential blue science spills.

Still, at least the sexy scientist didn’t dress up, only to pour her scientific acid freestyle like a bartender pouring hits.

Here we have a classic of the “WHY ARE YOU WEARING A LABORATORY GOWN” genre, which also shows off another trope: astronomers pointing to space.

Then we have a new subgenre of science stock photos: people listening to shit with stethoscopes for no apparent reason.

“After a lot of stethoscopy, I can confirm it’s an apple.”

And tomatoes that are injected with up to three scientific syringes at the same time.

Also the ground, because why not.

Gather around the scientists and look at the pile of dirt. For science.

Perhaps the strangest of all… *drum roll*…scientists with plants on their desks timing with an old hourglass.

And scientists eating science.

Don’t eat science, scientists.

Now for the most common stock photos of science: people in lab coats (because how else would you know they’re scientists?) staring in wonder at some scientific data.

My face when science doesn’t work.

Either way, check out the hashtag because there are some real beauties. We’ll leave you with some stock footage of the climate change science gods controlling the weather and a group of scientists staring bemusedly at a chicken.
