Adobe has launched a new initiative to help democratize creativity, making 70,000 high-quality images and videos available for free. The new free Adobe Stock collection has been hand-curated by Adobe Stock artists and can be used for personal, professional, or commercial projects.
“Stock content has long been a powerful tool for creatives,” explained Claude Alexandre, vice president of Adobe Stock, in a blog post. (opens in a new tab). “Whether using it to kick off projects, quickly visualizing and pitching ideas and concepts, or combining licensed and original content into something new, creatives rely on stock to help them do more, faster. Today, it is even more essential that content creators have access to sophisticated imagery, while considerations such as shrinking budgets and the need for social distancing have made it extremely difficult to create original works.
In the new free collection, users can still use the usual search filters to help them quickly find the content they need. All images come with the same commercial licenses as Adobe’s paid assets, so users of stock content can rest assured that artists are being fairly reimbursed for their content.
At the same time, Adobe is launching a new Artist Development Fund to help nurture artists from underrepresented backgrounds. The fund will support 40 selected artists with a $500,000 investment that can be used to cover the costs of equipment, art spaces and more.
Along the same lines, Adobe Stock also announced eight themes focused on intersectional narratives to inspire these underrepresented communities. After evaluating which artists will receive financial support, Adobe will consider each individual’s ability to authentically represent their own particular cultural identity.
Combining Adobe’s two new initiatives, the software company has confirmed that all content created through its artist development fund will be exclusively available through the free Adobe Stock collection for one year.
